Ekymbo is the collaboration between artist Oliver Patrice Weder and sound-smith John Ashley, who met outside a grungy blues bar during a night out on the canals of Amsterdam. After Ashley shared his passion for music hardware and experimental sounds, Weder invited him to his studio to hang out and Ashley unexpectedly turned up with a bag full of drum machines. These just happened to provide the perfect backdrop to Weder’s affected keys, synth bass and loop station, and after a month or two of intense jamming, they realised they were on to something. A few late-night experimental sessions later, and they had enough material to create an album. The outcome is a minimalist combination of ethereal soundscapes, glitched out keys and house influenced beats.
